Murder accused Shakoor Roberts has contacted his sister from prison claiming he is very sick and that he was framed for their mother’s murder.
Roberts, 27, sent the desperate WhatsApp voice messages to his sister, Rushana Adams, 38, on Eid last Monday, asking her to visit him at Pollsmoor Prison because he is very sick and has been tested for cancer and Aids after peeing blood for the past three months.
On Friday, Roberts made a brief appearance at the Mitchells Plain Regional Court where State prosecutor, Darryn Johnson, said he has been listening to voice recordings where Roberts allegedly made a confession to killing Gafsa in front of witnesses.
He requested that the matter be postponed to 6 September for further investigation.
Last month, Roberts’ legal team requested the recordings be verified as they questioned their authenticity.
The recordings were made by relative, Jamia Daniels, who is a witness in the case.
Prosecutors are set to prove Roberts strangled his mother to death on 27 February 2015, washed her body and hid it in their wheelie bin.

Three days later a neighbour found Gafsa’s body after noticing a foul smell at her home in Winterhoek Street, Tafelsig.
Rushana says her brother’s Eid message came as a shock as they haven’t spoken in years.
“Dit gaan baie swaar vir my hier binne. Ek pee net bloed en so,” he said.
He said he’d been tested for Aids, TB and cancer and that he was still awaiting the results.
He also claimed some relatives were paid by unknown persons who wanted to set him up for murder by producing his confession.
Roberts is a diagnosed schizophrenic, but was found fit to stand trial.
