The nephew of alleged Sexy Boys gang boss, Jerome “Donkie” Booysen, who has been charged with the murder of his estranged girlfriend and their seven-year-old daughter, will be applying for bail.
Ryan Kyle Smith, 28, made his first appearance at the Bellville Magistrates’ Court on Monday where he faced anti-gender-based violence protests outside the courthouse.
Smith was arrested on Friday by members of the Anti-Gang Unit after mom Altecia Kortjie, 26, and her daughter Raynecia Kortjie’s bodies were found inside his home in Commerce Street in
Belhar, apparently by Donkie.
MURDERED: Mom Altecia Kortje, 26
According to court papers, both victims were stabbed to death.
Raynecia, who was in Grade 1 at Belhar Primary School, was found lying on the bathroom floor.
The State has indicated that they will be opposing Smith’s bail application, which is expected to take place on 22 June.
On Tuesday, Altecia’s father, Martin Kortje, from Delft, said they can’t bury the mom and daughter yet.
KILLED: Raynecia Kortjie was only 7
“We cannot do anything until the postmortems are done at Tygerberg mortuary,” says Martin.
“That must first be completed before their bodies can be released for the funeral.”
The family previously told the Daily Voice that Altecia and Smith had a rocky relationship.
The couple also have a nine-month-old baby boy together, while Altecia has a two-year-old child from another relationship.
APPEAR: Protesters outside the Bellville Magistrates’ Court
It is alleged that Smith came to fetch his two children on Friday, 5 June, upsetting Altecia.
The following Monday, Altecia went to the police station to obtain an interdict against Smith.
She was last seen on Tuesday afternoon when leaving to fetch her children in Belhar. Her parents say Smith returned the baby boy the Tuesday evening.
