Manenberg Clinic was shut yesterday after a nurse working at the clinic, run by the City of Cape Town, tested positive for Covid-19.
Residents arrived at the clinic in Manenberg Avenue yesterday to find the facility shut and a notice erected informing them they should go to Hanover Park Day Hospital for assistance.
A father, who did not want to be named, said outside the clinic: “We don’t know what is going on, but this morning when the people arrived they were told the clinic is closed.
“We heard a nurse has the virus."
Mayco Member for Community Services and Health Dr Zahid Badroodien says: “We received test results late on Friday and the clinic was closed after a risk assessment was done, so effectively from Monday 18 May.”
He says all the staff at the clinic have gone for testing and will be under quarantine until they receive their test results.
“Clients are being referred to other nearby facilities such as Hanover Park and Heideveld,” he says.
Badroodien explains as the nurse was wearing protective gear and sanitised between consultations with patients they have not informed each patient seen by the nurse last week.
RISK: Dr Zahid Badroodien
“A tentative date for the reopening of the clinic has been set for 25 May, but this depends on when results are available.
“The staff member was wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment and sanitised between consultations, hence we are not informing each client,” Badroodien explains.
