The man accused of raping and murdering six-year-old Stacey Adams of Mitchell’s Plain has to be in court in person to receive his list of charges for his Cape High Court trial.
Officials have been ordered to transport Christopher Brown from Pollsmoor Prison today to the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court where he can formally receive his indictment.
Brown made a brief appearance at the courthouse on Monday via Audio Visual Remand (AVR) but the magistrate ruled he needs to be “physically present”, to receive the new list of charges against him.
Brown ditched his bail application in August 2018.
He has a long rap sheet, including a murder two assaults, one assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, and one for the illegal possession of a firearm.
OFF TO COURT: Accused Christopher Brown
On Sunday, 24 June 2018, Stacey’s half-naked body was found in a shallow grave next to Brown’s wendy house in De La Rey Street in Eastridge.
Brown and Stacey’s mother, Sasha-Lee, lived together while Stacey lived with her granny across the road.
Sasha-Lee was not at home, and Brown allegedly confessed to cops that he was angry at the mother for going to a party on the Friday night and that he took his anger out on Stacey when she came looking for her mommy on Saturday morning.
He allegedly admitted to trying to sodomise the child’s dead body but was not able to.
On the day of Brown’s arrest, community members tried to burn down his Wendy house and the main house, which belongs to his aunt.
The family was moved to a town outside Cape Town for safety, where they still reside.
