The mother of Michaela Williams says the court must declare her child’s killer a dangerous criminal.
Beatrice Adams says she hopes that convicted Steven Fortune will finally get to do time for the gruesome murder of her 12-year-old daughter.
The court has to decide if Fortune is a dangerous criminal before his sentencing.
At Fortune’s appearance in the Western Cape High Court on Wednesday, Judge Robert Henney explained: “There is a lot to think about before a decision is made.”
The case was postponed to June 14 for sentencing.
But a frustrated Beatrice says there’s nothing to think about.
“It is obvious that he is a dangerous criminal who should never set foot out of jail again,” says Beatrice.
“His age should not even be considered because he never considered his victims’ ages.
“He is a danger to society, no one is safe around him, he must get three life terms.”
Michaela disappeared in January 2020 while playing in front of her home in Pelikan Park.
Two days later, cops arrested 49-year-old Fortune from New Horizon who led police to where he had raped and killed the girl and left her body, in 9th Avenue, Schaapkraal.
She had been bludgeoned to death with a concrete slab which was found at the scene.
Fortune later admitted to luring Michaela by promising to buy her a chocolate and cake.
He had previously been sentenced to 20 years behind bars for the rape and attempted murder of an eight-year-old girl who was lured from her home in Hyde Park to the Khayelitsha Cemetery.
The little girl pretended to be dead after being stabbed in the heart and managed to crawl to safety hours later.
He had been on parole for three years at the time of his arrest for Michaela’s murder.
Beatrice said the case has taken its toll on her: “This whole case gets on my nerves, it stresses me out.
“I hoped today would be sentencing as we were told in court last Thursday.”
