A single mom and her daughter have been left homeless after their Wendy house burnt down when drug addicts left hot coal behind their home in Delft.
Lucinda van Wyk, 30, had been attending church a week ago when her house in Bergbessie Street, Rosendal, Delft, caught fire.
Lucinda, who has an 11-year-old daughter, found her house in flames.
HELP: Lucinda’s daughter, 11
Firefighters informed the family that druggies, who made a fire behind her home, had left hot coal in their wake.
Now Lucinda, who used to work at local crèches, is homeless and is only left with the clothing on her back.
Family friend and community worker Myrtle Smith says they are appealing for help for Lucinda and her daughter.
“She had been at church when the fire started and when she got home, the whole place had already burnt and she could not save anything,” explains Myrtle.
“She had a home which was fully furnished.
“Now she doesn’t even have a bed to sleep on.”
RAZED: Pleas to rebuild Delft home
“The fire department told the family that these guys were smoking at the section behind the house and left the hot coal there which started the fire.
“That is why we are appealing for any donation of food, bedding, shoes, and furniture like a bed.
“She has received a donation from disaster management for some materials, but she still needs help to rebuild her home.”
