A 25-year-old father from Atlantis was shot eight times in the head in Atlantis in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Taliep De Villiers was walking from his aunt’s house to his mother’s house in Avondale, in the gangetjie between Sun Road and Rozetta Road when he was approached by an unknown person and shot in the back of the head eight times.
According to his aunt, who did not want to be named, Taliep was alive for just over an hour after he was shot, while they waited in vain for an ambulance to arrive.
“The police came and we asked them to take him to the hospital, but they would not.
“His mother, my sister, sat with him for four hours. For three of those hours, he was dead.
“The ambulance came with the morgue van,” she says.
According to his grieving family, Taliep was a good man who took care of his family.
He is married and has two daughters, aged 3 and 6.
The Daily Voice spoke to his father, Riyadt De Villiers, from his home in Mpumalanga, who said he was shocked at the violent death of his son.
He says they do not know why Taliep was killed.
“I got a call that my son was shot and killed 20 steps from his mother’s house.
“He was not a gangster and did not do drugs. He took care of his family.
“He loved his kids and worked hard for them. He did not deserve this death and we are shattered by this news.”
Police spokesperson, Siyabulela Malo, confirmed the shooting and says a case of murder has been opened for investigation.
