In the run up to Guy Fawkes next week, police are investigating a case of assault after a 17-year-old girl had an exploding firecracker flung into her face by pupils at her school.
Beata Croutz, a Grade 11 pupil at Strandfontein High School,
suffered injuries to her face, one ear and a finger after the incident on Monday.
Her outraged parents say the principal has failed to take action against four Grade 9 boys.
The family have since opened a case of assault with intent to cause grievous harm with police.
Police spokesperson Captain Nopaya Mdyibi confirms: “The case is under investigation and no arrest has been made at this stage.”
This week the meisie continued to receive medical treatment, after also experiencing ringing in her ears.
Beata tells the Daily Voice she had been sitting with her friends when a firecracker was flung in her direction and exploded in her face.
“It was on Monday during first interval when I was sitting down and finishing off some work before my next class,” she says.
“I heard three firecrackers go off. The third one hit me directly. It hit me on my finger and blew up in my face. I had a ringing sound in my ear and a blood vessel in my eye burst. I was shaken and told a teacher what happened.”
