A 13-year-old girl from Manenberg, who fell pregnant by a man in his 20s, is being investigated after cops discovered that she hid her baby under her bed for two days.
The meisie fell pregnant but did not tell her parents.
News of the foetus under her bed emerged after she confided in a friend living in the same street.
Shocked cops arrived at the scene in Silverstream Road yesterday morning after receiving a tip-off that the foetus was being stored in a cooler box.
Manenberg SAPS commander Brigadier Sanele Zama says officers entered the home and were taken to the bedroom.
“The foetus was found covered in two school shirts and placed into a red cooler box,” he says.
“The box was hidden under a bed in the room and the girl and her family were questioned.
“According to the parents, they were unaware that their daughter was pregnant, while the girl admitted to officers that she had a boyfriend in his 20s and further said she had lied to him about her age, claiming she was much older.”
Zama says due to the position in which the foetus was found, officers at the scene were unable to conclude whether it was male or female.
“It was in a foetal position so they could not see the gender.
“The information which came to the police indicated that the girl confided in another girl who lives in her street that she had woken up on Sunday night in pain and the foetus came out and she hid it for two days.”
Zama says the teen will go for medical examinations and counselling.
“At this stage we have opened an inquest docket and it is not yet clear if she will be charged.”
