One of the girls involved in the video of a vicious attack on a Bonteheuwel teen that went viral has come forward to make a public apology.
Meanwhile, it is still not clear what the fight was about.
Two weeks ago, the 14-year-old girl was attacked by a gang of girls in Bitterblaar Street.
The meisie was hospitalised following the brutal attack in which she was beaten up and kicked in the face and back.
Police confirmed that a case of common assault was opened for investigation.
On Saturday, one of the attackers, a matriculant, said she was sorry for her part in the attack and asked the young victim’s forgiveness.
Ward councillor Angus McKenzie had met with the girl and confirmed to the Daily Voice that neither the victim nor her parents were present.
VIRAL: Girls' brutal attack caught on video
“I have engaged both families on the matter and expressed my deep disgust with what has transpired. This incident has portrayed an entire community in a way in which it is not,” he said.
The victim was believed to be a 17-year-old, but her mother told the Daily Voice she is 14 and in Grade 8.
It was also claimed the fight was over a boy, but the young victim’s mother denied this although she could also not say why her daughter was beaten up.
“My daughter is already traumatised, she cannot even sleep and this is her first year at high school.
“She didn’t do anything (to the girls) and it wasn’t over a boy.
“I’m a single parent and she’s my baby. I just want this to stop,” the mother said.
On Saturday, the matriculant met McKenzie at his office in Bontas and issued an apology.
“I just want to say sorry to her and her mother. I know I was wrong and I humble myself to ask sorry.

“As a matriculant, I don’t want this to interfere with my career and my school work.
“I came forward because of the rude comments on Facebook. I don’t want people to look at me in a negative way.
“From the bottom of my heart I ask sorry and hope that she will forgive me. I will never do that again,” she says.
She did not say what the fight was about exactly, but it appears the 14-year-old was a random victim of peer pressure.
“If you’re in a crew of girls there’s always a different attitude to have because your friends will always say: ‘ja, do it man’.
“You feel kwaai and you think it’ll make you popular if you fight. But when you face the consequences, you have to face it alone without them,” the matric meisie added.
McKenzie says an anti-bullying campaign will be launched in the area.
“We will be working with the Bonteheuwel youth to try and curb these horrible situations and bring bullying to an end,” McKenzie added.
The 57-second video shows how two older girls attack the victim in the street, beating her in the face and kicking her in the face and back.
The girl does not fight back and the fight is eventually broken up by two women and the girl runs away.
