Cops have arrested a man who allegedly shot and killed a Bonteheuwel mom of two, who was engaged to be married.
Lauren Dryden, 31, who worked in Epping, was waiting for transport home after her night shift early on Friday when she was robbed.
Police made an arrest later that day.
Fernando Isaacs, 36, will appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates’ Court on a charge of murder today.
Councillor Angus McKenzie explains: “On Friday morning Lauren finished her late night shift and called her Uber to take her home.
“While waiting outside the company premises, the suspect approached her demanding her cellphone.
“Her last words were, ‘I’m waiting for my Uber’.
“Once the phone was taken, a firearm was drawn and Lauren was shot.”
Police spokesperson FC van Wyk says their crime scene experts went to investigate the murder at King Hall Avenue in Epping 2.
“They went out to comb the scene for clues after the 31-year-old woman was shot and fatally wounded on Friday morning at about 6am,” he says.
“A murder case was registered for investigation.
“Circumstances surrounding this fatal shooting incident are under investigation.
McKenzie has called on the Bonteheuwel community to attend court this morning to oppose bail.
“The people will oppose bail, we refuse to have such an individual as part of our community. He does not represent who we are!” he says.
“I will relentlessly, along with the people of Bonteheuwel, pursue absolute justice for Lauren.
“It’s evident to me that criminals roam our streets with impunity, with little or no regard for life or others.
“This is indicative of where we find ourselves as a country where rampant corruption and disregard for people, specifically poor people, thrives.”
McKenzie says on the day Lauren was killed, her funding application was approved.
“I met her when she came and registered for the City of Cape Town and German Funding Corporation Covid Relief fund for her two little children.
“This morning that funding was approved, sadly she won’t be able to spend that money on her children.
“I will, however, ensure that the funding relief makes its way to her children.”
