A Delft community worker charged with the rape of a 15-year-old girl he was transporting to school will remain behind bars.
Amien Fakier from Surburban had applied for bail in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court, but this was denied on Friday.
Fakier is accused of raping the high school girl on 19 and 20 February in his vehicle before taking her to school.
The teen’s family says they have known Fakier for six years.
The girl’s distraught 43-year-old mother says although they’re still struggling with everything, they are relieved he will not be released.
“Normal is something we will never be again, but we are relieved. My daughter can now sigh with relief and breathe. I couldn't breathe because it felt like I was under water for a while. She can now feel safe.
“We still have a long journey ahead of us, but for now we are OK,” the mother explains.
Previously she told Daily Voice Fakier was well-known in the community.
ACCUSED: Amien Fakier
“He’s a community worker, he volunteers for SAPS and Gift of the Givers and has a takeaways in the area.”
The teen has been battling with suicidal thoughts since the ordeal, however, the family says the denial of Fakier’s bail application gives them hope.
“There is a sense of relief knowing the justice system hasn’t failed us this time by letting an alleged rapist out on bail,” the mother says.
She says Fakier’s family has continuously badmouthed them, especially on social media.
“No matter how his family tried to discredit, slander, badmouth, disgrace my daughter and our family, in the end the truth came out.
“They can say and do what they want. It doesn’t change what he is accused of,” she adds.
