A man has been arrested for allegedly gunning down an innocent dad from Manenberg as he went to buy food for his children.
An intensive investigation by Manenberg detectives along with the Anti-Gang Unit led to the arrest of the 40-year-old man accused of killing dad Moegamat Sharief Solomons, 20, in a drive-by shooting.
Sharief, an alarm technician and father of two girls, came under fire while walking in Ruimte Road shortly after 8pm on Friday.
His uncle, Waleed Rajap, explained all he wanted to do was get food for his daughter when he was shot.
Manenberg SAPS commander Brigadier Sanele Zama, says a bloody gang war between the Americans and Fancy Boys have led to many deaths in recent weeks and the youngest victim was a 13-year-old boy who was struck in the abdomen by a stray bullet.
He says on Friday, a black Audi was seen driving down Ruimte Road and shots were fired from the car.
According to witnesses, Sharief fell to the ground and begged for his life, but despite telling the gunman that he was not a gangster, they continued to fire multiple shots at him.
“The area he was walking in is Fancy Boys turf and the Americans mistook him for a Fancy Boy.
“An investigation by Manenberg detectives and AGU led to the arrest of a 40-year-old man who is a member of the Americans gang,” says Brigadier Zama.
“The suspect has been charged with murder and attempted murder as another man was injured in the shooting.
“He will make his first appearance at the Athlone Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
“The investigation into Sharief’s murder is continuing and we are expecting more arrests.”
Sharief’s janaazah was held on Sunday and he was laid to rest at Klip Road cemetery.
His grief-stricken parents said they are not ready to comment on the latest developments but want justice for their son.
