Firefighters were called to a scene in Woodstock on Sunday where it's believed eight train carriages were set alight.
Jermaine Carelse of the City’s Fire and Rescue says 21 firefighters and five fire trucks were dispatched to the Shunting Yard in Woodstock just before 8pm.
The firefighters found several old wooden carriages on different railway lines burning.
While dousing the flames, Carelse says one firefighter was left wounded.
The investigation and scene was later handed over to property owners, Transnet.
Carelse explains: “At 7.55pm tonight (Sunday) the City's Fire & Rescue Service responded to train carriages alight in the Shunting Yard, Woodstock.
“The initial response comprised of 5 fire fighting appliances (trucks), a rescue vehicle and 21 staff members.
“Upon arrival, the officer in charge discovered that it was disused wooden carriages on different railway lines alight and additional resources were called upon.

“We had in total ten fire fighting appliances on scene.
“The fire was extinguished at 1:35am this (on Monday).
“One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was taken to hospital.
“The scene was handed over to Transnet.”
Riana Scott of Metrorail also confirmed the train carriages were Transnet Property.
In June, fire and rescue teams were called to Transnet Engineering Yard in Maitland where they found several trains carriages set alight.
Scott confirmed the burnt carriages belonged to them, but was not in use.
She said the carriages were unused and stationary in the Transnet lot.
