Police were called to the corners of Ionian and Siberian streets, in Rocklands, on Sunday just after 9pm where the body of Llewellyn van Wyk, 26, was found.
Cops say Llewellyn had been shot in the head and died on the scene.
On Monday family members of Llewellyn told the Daily Voice they were unsure what had happened and would not comment any further.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, confirmed: “A case of murder is opened for investigation after a shooting incident that occurred on the corners of Ionian and Siberian streets, Rocklands.
“According to information police attending the scene of crime was shown the body of the deceased, a 26-year-old male. The deceased had sustained gunshot wounds to his head.
“No arrests have been made.”
It is not clear if the shooting was gang-related.
