A brand new community organisation, which started just a few months ago in Belhar, is doing a massive stationery drive in aid of underprivileged laaities in the area.
Bukaphe, started by Christoffel Maneville, 35, from Extension 13 is working with Reeds Opel and Kaleidoscope in Claremont to kick off the new school year with a bang in January.
In June, Christoffel, who is a community worker for more than 13 years, set out on a blanket drive and managed to help hundreds of families keep warm this winter.
The Daily Voice did the story then, and a grateful Christoffel said business owners in the community asked him recently what he would be working on next.
“The blanket drive was a huge success and soon after I registered the NPO, and Bakuphe was given its first task with the idea of assisting the community once again.
“We feel the children in our communities going to school do not always have the finances to start the year.
“We have already received a list of learners and schools that are in dire need right here in Belhar. Any assistance with any stationery will be greatly appreciated,” Christoffel says.
