A week after Donald Trump’s universally-panned media conference with Vladimir Putin, the Russian president found himself on our shores and meeting with our president this week.
I must admit, after Trump’s cowering display, I was a little nervous for President Cyril Ramaphosa.
But it worked out a whole lot better than I imagined.
Putin was here as part of the Brics Summit.
Brics - an acronym which stands for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - is the grouping of emerging economies that aims to support one another in various fields of interest.
But, of course, some of those economies are stronger than others, like China and Russia, which means they could become economic bullies within the group.
But it turns out Ramaphosa may have pulled us out of a contentious nuclear power deal.
Under Jacob Zuma, the nuclear deal looked certain and there were fears of corruption on a grand scale should it go ahead.
The anti-nuclear groups will be overjoyed to know that the deal is now on hold, after Ramaphosa convinced Putin that we simply can’t afford it at the moment.
It may have been easy for Putin - who many believe is one of the richest men in the world - to produce numbers that would’ve seduced Zuma.
But his successor, Ramaphosa, who is a billionaire in his own right, may have been a little less impressed.
