Kraaifontein police are investigating a case of murder after a man was brutally pistol-whipped in an argument over a bottle of brandy on Sunday.
The victim, known only as Charlie, 48, from Wallacedene, was declared dead on the corner of Petersen and Bharu streets.
A witness, who asked not to be identified, explains: “Charlie is originally from the Eastern Cape and was arguing with a man over a bottle of Viceroy brandy.
“The one man had a gun and hit him twice behind his head. Hard.
“He fell down on his back and just lay still.”
A former porter at Tygerberg Hospital was called to the scene as residents waited for paramedics to arrive.
Reginald Louw, 40, says he tried in vain to assist Charlie.

“Everyone knows years ago I was a porter at Tygerberg Hospital. People came to my house, calling to come help him,” he says.
“When I got to the scene, I warned people not to move him.
“I saw he had a head wound and told people not to try and turn him around.”
“I checked his pulse and it was weak, and his chances of survival looked slim.
“I moved my hand slowly to feel the pulse in his neck and that’s when he gave his last breath.”
Police spokesperson Constable Adams confirms: “Circumstances surrounding the death of a 48-year-old male who was attacked by two unknown men at Bharu Street in Wallacedene, Kraaifontein, are being investigated.
“Arrests are yet to be made.”
