This Mitchells Plain klong is on the ball when it comes to his soccer career dream.
Keano Beckett, 14, from Rocklands was selected to take part in the Gothia Cup in Sweden next month.
Although his mother, Natashe Beckett, 39, tried everything to raise funds for his trip, she says “things are looking bleak where finance is concerned”.
“I have been doing hairdressing in my community on weekends, I’m selling chip rolls, I hosted a karaoke event where only 15 people supported and I do raffles at work,” she says.
“He needs R20 000 and I managed to raise a quarter of his funds since we heard he was selected in November 2017.”
Keano, who is in Grade 9 at Spine Road High School, says he is excited to reach his dream of becoming a famous soccer player.
“My role model is Sergio Ramos and if I play well enough to get scouted at this tournament, who knows where this could take me,” says Keano.
The Gothia Cup tournament is the largest international youth tourney in the world and takes place from 14 to 21 July.
Keano started playing soccer at 11 years old for Bayhill United in Rocklands, Mitchells Plain and has already won numerous awards for his fancy footwork.
He’s been holding the position as central defender for Milano United FC since last year after making trials and he’s also scooped the title for Player Of The Year.
