It’s week five of the Kaapse Klopse Karnival competition at Athlone Stadium this Saturday.
Last week there was a slight damper on proceedings due to light rain and technical issues with the sound, which caused delays and ended in some teams not being able to perform.
But this week the KKKA is ready for anything and says the remaining teams of Section 2 will join Section 1 teams in the competition to do their thing.
Teams will compete in Juvenile Combined Chorus, Afrikaans Combine Chorus, English Comic and Female Sentimental.
BRINGING THE HEAT: Competing klopse team
Teams include Ohio Carnival TV Stars, Young Tycoons, Xtreme Minstrels, Orient G Star, District Six Raw, Posh Vibrants, Mitchells Plain All-Stars, Playaz, West London All-Stars, Juvie Boy Entertainers and Baruch Entertainers.
Each team will have a chance to perform in front of thousands of excited spectators and a panel of judges.
The KKKA’s Muneeb Gambeno says: “We are trying to improve the quality of the carnival each week and we trust the spectators will enjoy the carnival leading up to the final event day.”
Tickets for adults general seating is R60 and kids R35, grandstand seating is R90 and VIP Suit entry is R200, available from Computicket.
Calling all former Havana Club patrons, it’s the Havana Reunion party at The Grillfather in Woodstock on Saturday.
SOCIAL DINING: Havana Reunion
Havana was a popular cocktail and tapas bar in the southern suburbs and lives on through their reunions hosted at various locations.
Organiser Kurt Swile says: “Havana reunions are held four times a year. The vibe is mature with a social dining and dancing crowd mixed with a good mix of house, commercial and hip hop music.”
It’s also National Beer Day on Saturday and Brewers Co-Op will be on hand with 16 craft beers on tap.
Tickets cost R100 at the door.
