The Baxter Theatre has launched a sustainability campaign and you can help by buying them a cup of coffee every month.
The Baxter’s CEO Lara Foot says the launch of the campaign through the Baxter Coffee Angels will drum up funds for the foreseeable future, after the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown effectively shut down the entertainment industry.
“We are the most active theatre in the country, presenting over 3 000 performances a year, with a growing international reputation,” says Lara.

“We are also the most diverse theatre in the country, when it comes to programming and audience members. We do this with a small and dedicated staff, all of us working two or three portfolios at the same time.
“Our Production Fund is separate to our Operational Fund and I as CEO have to raise money for each project separately.”
Marketing Manager Fahiem Stellenboom says the Baxter is partially funded by the University of Cape Town, but they are hoping to become less reliant on donors.
“This campaign was created for the Baxter Theatre to move to a point of independence and not rely on the 30% given by the University of Cape Town.”
The theatre is now appealing to donors to participate in the campaign, called “Buy the Baxter Theatre a cup of coffee every month”, which entails people donating the price of a cup of coffee, which is R30, each month to help sustain Baxter.
