A Bonteheuwel mom is desperately trying to get her son to the USA to play in the prestigious Dallas Soccer Tournament.
Jamie Visage, 18, has been selected to take part in the six-week long tournament and needs R35 000, which includes accommodation, flights and food.
Single mom of three, Michelle Visage, says she has already raised about R10 000 but needs help to get the rest.
“I’m appealing to people to help my son reach his dream of playing in this tournament.”
Jamie has been playing for the FN Rangers since he was 13.
Michelle says she’s been holding raffles and minor events to raise funds and won’t rest until she sees her son on the plane.
“I still have upcoming events that I need to work on, but it’s difficult to find available venues that are centrally located to host parties.”
Jamie is in Grade 11 at Arcadia Senior Secondary School in Bonteheuwel and when not busy with homework and studies, he is practising his footie skills outside.
Jamie says while it’s challenging growing up in a community rife with gang violence and drugs, it will not stop him from reaching for the stars.
“Every community has its challenges. However you as a person determine the outcome of your own success.”
Jamie is set to leave on 30 March 2020.
