If you’re already missing the klopse, here’s a chance to see them in winter.
For the first time, the Satin to Sequins - More than a Minstrel show is coming to the Baxter Theatre and producers say this is one tafel you cannot miss.
For the past five years, this show has been shown at the Joseph Stone Auditorium and Maynardville Theatre.
Now, theatre icon Alistair Izobell has re-worked the show and is bringing it to the Baxter for the first time.
Written and produced by Oddball Concepts, the production aims to entertain the audience while hoping to de-stigmatise the perceptions and culture of the Cape Town minstrels.

The show is also directed by Alistair and will run for three weeks from 28 June.
The cast includes Carmen Maarman, Carlo Daniels, Austin Rose, Tashreeq de Villiers, Shadley Schroeder and Ashtevahn Mintoor, accompanied by a live band.
Satin to Sequins is the fictional story of a man called Mr Biggs and his team, The Woodstock Darlings, and what it takes to run a minstrel troupe.
Alistair says this musical spectacle brings audiences the festive season vibe in the heart of winter, with original songs performed by authentic, seasoned minstrels and musicians who are all well-respected in the minstrel fraternity.
He says this 2018 re-worked version will also show the human side to klopse, who are “so often misunderstood”.
“After all, there is more to the guy in the satin suit –he also pays taxes and he also struggles with love and loyalty,” says Alistair.
Producer Faghri Abrahams says it’s an honour to be going to the Baxter Theatre.
“To have worked on this product for the last five years and have it presented at the Baxter Theatre and directed by the award-winning Alistair Izobell is truly humbling and extremely exciting,” he says.

Alistair says he is amped to introduce so much “raw talent” to Cape Town.
“This is one of the most exciting projects I am getting to work on young, unpolished raw talents that I’m getting to see grow into fantastic performers and musicians,” he says.
“Minstrels have always been part of my life and now to create a production out of this important subject is humbling.”
Tickets cost R150 through Webtickets or at selected Pick n Pay stores.
