Trevor Noah was on top form at the Academy Awards on Sunday night, reminding the world why he is one of the best comedians.
But his best joke was lost on the audience at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre, as it was delivered in Xhosa.
While introducing the Best Picture nominee, Black Panther, Trevor touched on his "childhood memories in Wakanda", saying: "Growing up as a young boy in Wakanda, I would see T'Challa flying over our village, and he would remind me of a great Xhosa phrase, Abelungu abazi' uba ndiyaxoka, which means, In times like these, we are stronger when we fight together than when we try to fight apart."
undefinedWhile the guests cheered on, South African Twitter was left in stitches by Trevor's anecdote because they were undoubtedly the only ones who understood the true meaning of the Xhosa phrase, which loosely translates to "White people don't know I'm lying".
