Cape Town City FC kick off the 2018/19 Absa Premiership season at Cape Town Stadium this Saturday, 4 August at 18:00.
Cape Town’s only remaining PSL team will host Pretoria-based SuperSport United, in what’s expected to be a mouth-watering clash between two clubs who’ve cooked up some real entertaining football over the last 2 seasons.
Cape Town City FC Head coach, Benni McCarthy: “We are probably as ready as we’ll ever be to start a new season. I’m very satisfied with what my boys have given me in this preseason. We got exactly what we wanted from all of our preseason friendlies so we are well prepared for this opening clash.”
New CTCFC captain Thamsanqa Mkhize: “It’s not easy to be entrusted with the leadership position of this team, this is a big team but with the help of my teammates, technical team and the management I feel like anything is possible for us. We’ve all worked hard to get ready for the new season so Saturday will be our chance to show just how far we’ve come as a team.”
New CTCFC striker, Siphelele Mthembu: “I needed a new environment to continue my career. Everyone here at Cape Town City has made me feel at home so it’s helped me to just focus on my football. The net never gets full so I’ll keep working to score as many goals as I can for this amazing club.”
New CTCFC goalkeeper, Peter Leeuwenburgh: “I’ve settled in well here so far. I’ve been to visit Cape Town before but now it’s a real dream come true for me to live here and play for one of the biggest teams in South Africa. With the team we have and the way we play, we could be competitive in the Dutch league as well, so we will definitely look to compete and win some trophies for the club.”
