The trial of a Mitchells Plain oupa accused of killing his tikkop son has been set for 26 September.
After eight months, Sedick Abrahams, 62, will go on trial to tell the courts what happened on the day he stabbed his son Clinton, 28.
Sedick was arrested in January shortly after the stabbing and was later released on bail.
The hartseer pensioner told Daily Voice on the day of the murder he stabbed Clinton in the chest during a heated argument in January over a plate of food.
He said his family has been through hell with his son’s addiction over the past 13 years and says he never meant to kill the young man, but was only defending himself.
The son had started using drugs, mainly tik, as a teenager and terrorised his parents by stealing and attacking them.
“He stole clothes, the kettle, cups, saucers everything and when he came into the house he would just want food or money and if we didn’t give it, then he would attack us,” Sedick said.
The oupa has made several appearances in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court as his Tafelsig neighbours and the Mitchells Plain Impact Association (MPIA) have shown their support with marches and pickets at each appearance.
When he was in court last month, his legal aid lawyer called for the charges to be dropped but he was informed yesterday that the case will go ahead.
The trial is set to commence at the Mitchells Plain Regional Court on 26 September.
