A R6000 reward is being offered to find the man who helped stab a pit bull to death in the street earlier this year.
The Cape of Good Hope SPCA Grassy Park has received a R1 000 donation from animal lover, Ellen Fedele, and added an additional R5 000 for information which could lead to the man’s arrest.
Benji the pit bull was stabbed and killed on 10 May in Site B, Khayelitsha.
Following an investigation by the SPCA, one suspect, Sihle Mbambo, 27, of Khayelitsha was arrested and is facing charges relating to animal cruelty.
Mbambo was released on R500 bail.
The SPCA acted after seeing a video showing two men stabbing Benji to death in full view of the public, after the dog allegedly attacked a child in the community.
The second man in the video holds the dog down as it is being stabbed and is yet to be identified.
The video has since been handed in as evidence to the court.
The SPCA is now eager to find the accomplice.
Belinda Abraham of the SPCA says should people come forward with information, their identities would be protected.
She says there is an urgent need for the justice system to be more severe when handing down sentences against animal abusers.
