A drug-dealing duo are behind bars after Law Enforcement officers raided their flat and found them with a large stash of drugs worth over R100 000.
Officers say the 41-year-old Nigerian man and his wife, 35, are believed to be one of the biggest drug distributors in Bellville supplying dwelms to tourists.
Law Enforcement’s Wayne Dyason says on Wednesday night officers received a tip-off and, along with Metro Police, raided the couple’s flat in Voortrekker Road where they discovered the drugs, foreign currency and klompie cellphones.
“Officers of the Stabilisation Unit followed up on the tip-off at the couple’s flat in Stratton Court where they seized 14 cellphones, 21.8 grams of tik, 3.33 grams of cocaine, five units of crack cocaine, 1 530 whole mandrax tablets, 120 halved mandrax tablets and 121.8 grams of crushed heroin.
“The drugs have an estimated street value of more than R100 000, but the officers also found various foreign money from America, Zimbabwe, Israel, Turkey, Nigeria, France, Bermuda and Egypt,” Dyason says.
According to a source, the Nigerian man and his Cameroonian wife are married and cops have been monitoring him for a while now.
“The male is one of the distributors in Bellville and it is believed they have been monitoring him for a while, but couldn’t pin him down.”
Dyason says the couple were arrested and taken to Bellville Police Station where they were charged with drug dealing.
“They had a lot of drugs and such a wide variety that they were charged with dealing. We suspect they operated on the dial-a-drug system and used various numbers for their customers to reach them,” says Dyason.
“What is most concerning is the large amount of foreign cash and it is suspected they must have been selling or providing drugs to tourists based on all the different types of money they had in their possession.”
