Two suspected Parkwood skollies got a skrik when their bail application came to a grinding halt at Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Friday.
Ikeraam Bianchi, 28, and Marlon Neehuis, 27, alleged members of the Junky Funkys gang, who have been charged with the murder of seven-year-old Ezra Daniels, have made an application to be released from Pollsmoor Prison, claiming they did not shoot the little boy.
Police say Ezra was killed on 3 September last year when a bullet intended for a gangster hit him in the neck while he was playing in Abdullah Moosa Walk.
The alleged leader of the Junky Funkys gang, Tasliem “Thaliem” Bianchi, along with Ikeraam, Neehuis, Kelly Daniels and Kimberley Solomons were arrested for Ezra’s murder.
Solomons and Daniels were granted R1 000 bail in November last year.
However, their two co-accused were not so lucky after they were informed that their own relatives would not house them if released on bail.
During court proceedings, the State prosecutor read the investigating officer’s affidavit in which it was revealed that Bianchi and Neehuis gave alternative addresses but relatives refused to take them in, saying they were a safety risk.
According to the affidavit, the five accused were seen in a white VW Golf driven by Neehuis which circled the road where Ezra and his five-year-old friend were playing.
It was later discovered that the other boy is the son of Neehuis.
Witnesses say Bianchi shot in the direction of the boys and the vehicle sped off.
Officers found a cartridge inside the vehicle and primer residue on Bianchi’s hands.
The State has opposed bail as they believe witnesses will be intimidated.
Magistrate Goolam Bawa postponed the matter to 24 May.
