Prosecutors are digging deep as they try to unearth details of six men believed to be the runners and packers of suspected drug kingpin Fadwaan “Vet” Murphy.
The suspects were caught with R1.12 million worth of tik in their possession last week.
Clayton Africa, Igshaan Saban, Tyron Goodwin, Keenan April, Nathan Crowster and Jonathan Prins made a brief appearance at the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court yesterday on a charge of dealing in drugs.
The men, all from Mitchells Plain and aged between 25 and 44, were caught on Wednesday along Raats Drive, Table View, in a blue Volkswagen Jetta.
Inside the car cops found 3.2kg of tik which was originally estimated at R600 000, but was yesterday confirmed to be worth R1.12m.
The car is registered to Glenda Bird, who is the biological sister of Murphy.
Yesterday, the men informed the court they would be represented by one advocate who was privately appointed.
It emerged that most of the accused were previously behind bars for various offences including drug dealing.
Prins is currently appearing at the Khayelitsha Priority Crimes Court for another matter. Details of the case were not disclosed.
The group will remain in custody until their bail application on June 7.
Murphy and Bird, 46, were arrested in April and released on R20 000 bail.
Prosecutors are set to prove Murphy is the mastermind of an drug manufacturing operation after R1.1 million and R5 million worth of tik were found at a house in Lotus River last September.
The duo and three others are expected back in court on June 14 where they will be facing charges of money laundering and drug dealing.
