Judgement is expected in the Western Cape High Court on Thursday, in the case against Jerome Amerika, for the rape and murder of ten-year-old Shamonique Claasen.
He was arrested after Claasen went missing on February 27 – a day before her birthday.
After her mother, family members and neighbours searched and failed to fine her, they reported Claasen missing at the Paarl East Police Station the next day.
Two days after the child went missing, her family members reportedly noticed a smell coming from the house.
Claasen’s body was found under a bed in the house. It had been wrapped in a black bag and tied with wire.
She had reportedly been raped, stabbed and suffocated.
Amerika was a friend of the family who He was living with her eldest sister on the same property at the time.
The matter continues today.
