Heartless skelms have stolen equipment worth thousands from the Bonteheuwel library resulting in it going offline for several days.
Ward councillor, Angus McKenzie, says staff got a skrik when they arrived at work on Monday to find roof panels removed and computers and other equipment missing.
“They got in during the early hours of Sunday morning through the roof on the back end,” he says.
“It seems to have been very well orchestrated because they removed roof panels to gain access and stole various things, including stationery [and] books, but mostly computers.
“The police were called in on Monday and the offices were cordoned off.”
Police spokesperson, Constable Wesley Twigg, confirms the matter was reported and says at this stage no arrests have been made.
McKenzie says the electronic servers, which are connected to the nearby subcouncil office, were also stolen, resulting in councillors also being unable to work.

“Because of the servers we have been unable to work at the office and get more work done at home. Thankfully the main section of the library remained unaffected and so it did not have to close down completely.
“The staff cordoned off the offices for the police to do their work and opened the doors of the library and are working manually to give and receive books.”
He says the cost of the damage has not yet been ascertained and the hole in the roof has been repaired.
“There is something fundamentally wrong with someone who steals from a library that is there to service the community,” he adds.
