A Mitchells Plain oupa could spend the next 15 years behind bars for killing his
tikkop son, allegedly in self-defence.
Sedick Abrahams, 62, made his first appearance at the Mitchells Plain Regional Court Wednesday where his murder trial, for stabbing and killing his son Clinton, 28, got underway.
The oupa was informed that, if found guilty of murder, he could face a minimum sentence of 15 years.
Sedick admitted to stabbing Clinton in the chest during a heated argument on 31 January over a plate of food.

The hartseer pensioner says his family had been through hell with his son’s addiction over the past 13 years.
Sedick says Clinton was a friendly guy who was popular among their neighbours in Tafelsig, but in his teens he started using tik and as his addiction got worse, he started stealing from his parents’ home and even attacked both of them.
Clinton allegedly hit his father with pots and tried to throw boiling water on his mother, Myrtle.

Sedick says during the argument in January they fought and as he wrestled a knife away from Clinton, he accidentally stabbed his son in the chest.
Clinton died at the clinic and his father was arrested and released the next day on a warning.
Wednesday Sedick was surrounded by his relatives at court who shared family photographs and spoke about the problems they experienced due to Clinton’s addiction.
Legal Aid lawyer, Bertha Cottle, confirmed she would be representing the pensioner for the trial and requested the matter be postponed for consultation with her client.
The case was
postponed to 12 October.
Speaking outside court, Sedick said he attended a weekly prayer meeting on Tuesday where he asked for special prayers to see him through the trial.
“I don’t know what to expect from this point on, but the community is still supporting us,” he tells the Daily Voice.
“It is not easy and I got a shock to hear it’s 15 years, but what can I say?
“I never meant to do it, so I leave it in God’s hands. I have not pleaded yet.”
