Former Western Province captain Corne Krige and Thelo Wakefield is alweer in mekaar se hare.
After Wakefield wrote an open letter to Krige at the end of last month to discuss his uitlatings over the administrators at the union, the ex-Springbok tweeted on Friday: “Rumour has it that @WPRugby sold Newlands stadium today for R100 million. Not sure if it is true but wouldnt surprise me. #disgrace #desperation.”
Not the case, according to Wakefield, who sent out a press release saying: “WPRFU has not sold Newlands for the rumoured amount, or for that matter any of the Union’s properties.
“The previously stated position with respect to properties owned by the Union remains unchanged.”
While die poppe are dancing off the pitch, Western Province - under coach John Dobson - will leave for France to continue their preparation for the Currie Cup season tomorrow.
Dobson will name his travelling squad, who will play two matches in France against Narbonne and Montpellier respectively, today.
Of the trip, CEO Paul Zacks says: “The Faithful can be found all over the world and taking our brand to new territories forms part of our strategic plan, so it is particularly exciting for us to take Western Province to France, as we continue to strive to become a leading rugby franchise with global appeal.”
