Western Province coach John Dobson is knocking hard on the door for higher honours.
Admittedly it took some time for me to adjust to Dobson taking over from Allister Coetzee in 2015.
He is different. A breath of fresh air, I now know.
He hit the ground running at Province. Pun intended.
And I thought his cowboy tactics were a bit too much.
But then the players started to get used to him and now they are executing his plans to perfection.
He has brought back the free-running spirit in the Western Province team and it not only makes for wonderful viewing, it's also brought home the 2017 Currie Cup.
With the Stormers struggling under Robbie Fleck and the coaching staff reportedly not seeing eye to eye, Dobson is ready to make the step up.
After being linked with a coaching job at Connacht in Ireland earlier this year, Province should realise that if they don’t look after this man, he will be snapped up.
The call goes higher than that, SA Rugby should make a plan to keep this guy in the country.
He says it like it is and his players play it like it is.
Let’s see if he has what it takes to take the Stormers to their maiden Super Rugby title.
