Performance Centre in time for Western Province’s Currie Cup opener against the Blue Bulls at Newlands on Saturday.
Kolisi suffered a grade-one hamstring tear in the Stormers’ Super Rugby Unlocked clash against the Pumas last month, and while the WP camp wants to keep their cards close to their chest it is possible that he will play some part in what could be the last ever north-south derby clash at the famous old ground.
Kolisi missed the Capetonians’ 39-6 Super Rugby defeat to the Bulls in their visit to Loftus Versfeld last month because of the injury and having their leader back will be key as WP look to avenge that defeat.
Forwards coach Rito Hlungwane explains: “Siya is fit, he’s been training, he’s looking really good. Whether we’ll let him get going this weekend, I’ll keep it a secret for a few more hours. But he’s really excited to be involved.”
The Blue Bulls head south on a high after bagging the Super Rugby Unlocked title last weekend.
And with Pretoria coach Jake White likening his team to that of Liverpool and Manchester United after breaking a 10-year trophy drought, Hlungwane says they will keep it local.
Asked who WP will be in soccer terms if the Bulls are those two teams, he says: “I do like a bit of soccer myself.
“I’ll say Province is Orlando Pirates.
“I think it’s nice of them to be compared to Liverpool, even though Liverpool struggled to win [the league] for the past 30 years…
“But ja – Up the Bucs!”.
