Former African champions Nigeria and Morocco added their names to the hat for the draw for next year’s Afcon in Cameroon.
The Nigerian Super Eagles qualified courtesy of a 1-1 draw with South Africa on Saturday, guaranteeing the three-time winners a top-two spot in Group E.
Champions of 1976, Morocco, beat Cameroon 2-0 and will now have a chance to win a second African title next year.
The Comores kept their hopes alive in Group B by beating Malawi 2-1. Both teams still have a chance to qualify.
Uganda produced another stunning performance to outclass Cape Verde and reach the finals for the second time in a row.
Senegal had already qualified before Saturday’s match against Equatorial Guinea, but that did not stop the Lions of Teranga from winning 2-1.
Mali beat Gabon 1-0 to secure a spot in Cameroon. Gabon is in a titanic battle with Burundi for the second spot in Group C. Burundi crushed South Sudan 5-2 to stay in contention.
In Group D, Gambia (5 points) beat Benin (7 points) 3-1 to create a situation where all four teams in the group still have a fighting chance to reach the finals. Algeria leads the group with 7, with Togo in the last place with 5.
Meanwhile, Mo Salah scored the winner as Egypt beat Tunisia 3-2 on Friday night.
Tunisia remained top of Group J on the head-to-head countback with both countries on 12 points.
