Cape Town City on Wednesday afternoon named Dutch coach Jan Olde Riekerink as Benni McCarthy’s successor.
The announcement came three hours before kickoff for last night’s game PSL clash against Polokwane City at Cape Town Stadium as the club look to rebuild after just one win in nine games in the league.
In a video posted by the club, the Citizens’ new boss says: “I’ve worked for many years in professional football.I have experience with South African players, when I was with Ajax [Amsterdam].
“What I can add is my experience of all the years I’ve coached and trained. And I hope we get the results that fix the issues of the club.”
The experienced 56-year-old started his coaching career at Ajax Amsterdam and worked with City’s former coach McCarthy and his fellow Bafana Bafana legend Steven Pienaar during two stints with the Dutch giants.
He also has experience in Portugal, Belgium, Ukraine, China and Turkey.
Riekerink attended last night’s game and will join the team for Sunday’s trip to Limpopo to take on Black Leopards.
He is known for his no-nonsense style of coaching and has a reputation to getting into battle with referees.
