Cape Town City got the fast PSL start they were looking for, before familiar failings returned in their season opener on Saturday.
Kicking off their campaign away at Baroka, the Citizens wanted to prove that they could be a force on the road as they fight for the title this season.
And after 30 minutes, they were 2-0 up in Polokwane and destined for three points.
Following the hosts’ early onslaught, City rode their luck.
And they found themselves ahead in the 22 minute when young defender Keanu Cupido headed home a Surprise Ralani cross after good pressure from a free-kick.
Kermit Erasmus made it 2-0 when he thumped home from just outside the area after half an hour.
Two goals ahead away from home was the perfect fast start for the Capetonians, who were determined to show they mean business. But then they were haunted by the ghosts of the past as they conceded soon after Erasmus’ strike.

Mduduzi Mdantsane pulled back for fired-up Bakgaga in the 32nd minute.
And City’s lead was wiped out completely just before half time, when Tshediso Patjie got the better of goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh in the 41st minute.
Both teams had their chances to win the match in the second half and City’s Mozambican defender Edmilson Dove should have done better in the 92nd minute, but some desperate blocking by the Baroka defence kept him at bay.
Despite letting that 2-0 lead slip, City will be happy to come home with a point.
