Benni McCarthy wants to bring home Robyn Johannes and Wits are open for business.
Cape Town City coach McCarthy is desperate for a central defender as they prepare for a maiden PSL title push ahead of the new season.
With seasoned centrebacks like Taariq Fielies set to miss the opening six months of the campaign due to a botched appendectomy, Kouassi Kouadja injured and Kwanda Mngonyama sold, McCarthy only has youngsters at his disposal.
Last week the boss lamented his options, name-dropping his former captain Johannes as a player he would love to have.
He told reporters: “Johannes would be ideal‚ getting him back‚ just to put a name out there. I’m not saying I will get him‚ but he would not be a bad one at all.
“The shift that will happen if you get a player like Johannes‚ you become definite title contenders. The chairman [John Comitis] is working on it‚ so we will see.”

And they have received a huge boost after Students boss Gavin Hunt said that City can get their man at the right price.
Hunt tells Kickoff: “As I said it before everybody is for sale, doesn’t matter who you are, even myself I’m for sale if the price is right.
“We don’t want to sell any player unless it’s the right price.”
Meanwhile, McCarthy could miss City’s PSL opening clash away to Baroka next Saturday due to the birth of his fifth child.
After four daughters, the legendary Bafana Bafana striker is flying to Scotland as his wife delivers his first son.
