Benni McCarthy wants to lift the PSL trophy at the end of the upcoming season.
After three years in charge of Cape Town City, his first job as a head coach, the Bafana Bafana legend admits it’s time for him to step up.
McCarthy achieved the highest coaching qualification in the game as he led the Citizens to the MTN8 title last season, but he wants more.
He tells SABC radio: “I don’t want to learn no more. I must put the learning [from the past two seasons] into acing the exam, so I want to go and win the league now.

“I think we should be ready to go and fight and compete for those accolades, winning the league and that.”
McCarthy, however, admits that it will be a tough ask and reckons that he needs an experienced centreback.
Stalwart Taariq Fielies is ruled out for the first few months of the season and the sale of Kwanda Mngonyama, leaving the boss with rookies like Keith Groeneveld and Keanu Cupido at the moment.

He adds: “I could still do with another one or two more players, I don’t want to be too greedy but at centreback it is a worry.
“And, with younger players, you can’t you’ll get away with it maybe in one or two games, but games like the Barokas away, you need your experienced squad and to be solid.
“So, if I could add another decent centreback to the mix, I would be fine.”
