No fewer than six of Griquas’s starting lineup for their match against Western Province in Kimberley on Friday at 7.15pm are WP discards.
With wings Ederies Arendse and Eduan Keyter, centre Michal Hazner, scrumhalf Zak Burger, flank Zandre Jordaan and lock Ian Groenewald all cutting their teeth in the Mother City before moving on, they will be out to prove a point against the union.
Currently at the top of the Currie Cup log, with WP in fourth, Province coach John Dobson says they are preparing for a different type of animal.
WP captain Chris van Zyl knows all about the familiar route from Cape Town to Kimberley and knows their opponents will be out to prove a point.
Van Zyl says: “The way we are on the log it’s as a big a game for us as it is for them.

“I’ve always said that one thing about going to Kimberley, they always seem to get up a lot more for it in comparison to playing here [at Newlands].
“I know the guys are fully aware of what’s waiting for us over there.
“Sometimes they’ve got this point [that they shouldn’t have been thrown away by the union] to prove and that’s what they are trying to do.”
