Despite the worldwide spread of Covid-19 placing all sporting events in doubt in the coming months, Kenyan athletics fans on Monday flocked to buy tickets for the Tokyo Olympics.
Monday was the deadline day for the purchase of tickets, for the event to be held in Japan from July 24 to August 9.
Though no official ticket sale numbers could be revealed, managing director of Kingdom Sports Group (KSG), Daniel Beniston told Kenyan news publication Daily Nation: “Sorry, all information about sales are commercial in confidence, but I can advise it has been as busy as we expected, interest in the Olympic Games is as high as ever.”
Kenya, a powerhouse in world running, have 87 athletes already qualified for the global showpiece.
Kenyan athletes have qualified in men’s and women’s rugby sevens, swimming, boxing, taekwondo, Paralympic rowing and athletics.
