South Africa’s Springboks remained at No 5 when rugby's latest world rankings were announced on Monday.
The only consolation following their Murrayfield weekend win was that the Boks inched closer to World No 4 England, who are marginally behind the No 3 team Wales.
However, there could be a dramatic change on the rankings depending on the results this weekend when England host Australia at Twickenham Stadium, London, and Boks play Wales at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff.
The results that could move the Boks up the rankings are that they defeat Wales and England go down to the Aussies.
Despite World No 2 Ireland's win over New Zealand, they couldn't make the move up to No 1.
Meanwhile, Cape Town-born coach Gary Gold is continuing to work wonders with the USA Eagles who were one of the big movers in the Top 20 list.
Following their emphatic 31-5 victory over Romania in Bucharest, the USA Eagles now have their highest ever world ranking at 13th after a 15th slot last week.
Under Gold's guidance, the Eagles have won all nine Tests in 2018.
After the match, Gold said: "We're really happy with the performance today. I think these were some very tough conditions against a pretty good Romanian team and our guys stuck to the task very well.
"It was close at halftime but we did what we needed to do in the second half and fought really well. We withstood quite a lot of pressure from them in the second half, particularly at scrum time, but the guys held out really well and we're very happy to have gotten the win."
Elsewhere in Europe African teams battled the odds.
Namibia suffered a second successive tour defeat, going down 34-13 to Spain in Madrid.
In Marseille, France, Kenya’s World Cup dreams went up in smoke after they went down 42-27 to Hong Kong in a Rugby World Cup qualifier after leading 12-7 at the break.
As a result, both African teams dropped down the order and Namibia now finds themselves at 23 and Kenya at 30 on the world rankings.
