Uncapped seam bowler Ottniel Baartman was pulled from the Proteas squad ahead of their departure for their two-match Test series on the weekend.
Baartman, 27, was called up as one of two fresh faces in the squad ahead of their first tour in Pakistan for 14 years – the other being his Dolphins teammate Daryn Dupavillon.
But in a statement announcing that the squad returned no positive Covid-19 cases ahead of departure, Cricket South Africa added: “Ottniel Baartman has been ruled out due to medical reasons of a separate nature.”
Baartman was replaced on the flight to Karachi on Friday by 20-year-old Warriors speedster Marco Jansen.
Standing over 2m tall in his socks, the left-arm quick took 21 wickets at an average of 20.71 in this year’s four-day competition, the second-most to spinner Shaun von Berg’s 24.
SA had their first training session yesterday as they gear up for next week’s first Test which. The second Test, from February 4, takes place in Rawalpindi before three T20Is.
