An insistence on quantity over quality is killing rugby as we know it in South Africa.
Our two Pro14 sides - the Cheetahs and the Kings - lost their opening matches in this tournament again this weekend.
But the guys over at the South African Rugby Union (Saru) are looking to add two more teams to this tournament.
And it looks like those teams might be the Pumas and Griquas.
I don’t know about this.
There is no point in having four teams competing in this tournament and none of them making an impact.
My suggestion would be to select a Best of SuperSport Challenge squad, name them, and expose the best of the rest to European rugby.
This will allow SA rugby to prep better for the future and with the new contracting system they want to introduce, it will work wonders.
One squad will also have less financial implications.
As it stands, though, there are rumours that WP and the Blue Bulls also want to join Europe.
Now if the decision-makers truly want to end South African rugby by killing off the Currie Cup then this is the way to go.
If they want to grow our game and keep youngsters interested, I reckon a SuperSport Challenge squad is the way to go.
