Proteas Dwaine Pretorius and Reeza Hendricks smacked Sri Lanka’s bowlers to all corners of the Wanderers on Sunday to claim a 45-run Duckworth/Lewis T20I victory.
Having already wrapped up the three-match series 2-0 heading into the game, the Proteas players used the last international match on home soil before the start of the World Cup as a final effort to convince selectors that they have to be in the touring party.
Hendricks needed a big show after failing to impress in the ODIs and he produced.
After being put in to bat by their visitors, South Africa lost Aiden Markram (15) early.
But then Pretorius was promoted to No.3 and joined Hendricks for a second-wicket partnership worth 90 runs.
Hendricks (66) was then clean-bowled by Jeffrey Vandersay, but the action didn’t stop there.
Captain JP Duminy (34 off 14 balls, including three sixes) then joined Pretorius and it continued to rain sixes as the pair took South Africa to 198/2 in their 20 overs.
Pretorius ended on an unbeaten 77 off 42 balls.
Rain interrupted Sri Lanka's run-chase on 111/6 and their innings was shortened to 17 overs with a revised target of 183.
And despite trying hard to get the runs fast, they had no answer to Andile Phelukhwayo's bowling as he ended with figures of 4/24, with Sri Lanka bowled out for 137.
