The Cape Cobras were venomous over the weekend in the T20 Challenge, winning both of their matches against the Warriors and the Dolphins.
On Friday in Paarl, opening batsman Janneman Malan scored a superb century (103 off 57 balls) to guide the Capetonians to a seven-wicket win.
And while Malan couldn’t repeat his heroics at Newlands against the Dolphins on Sunday, the Cobras still managed to make it two from two.
This time, it was captain Rory Kleinveldt who set up the win.
After losing the toss, Kleinveldt’s team were put in to bat first.
With Proteas World Cup hopeful Hashim Amla top-scoring for his side with 32, Kleinveldt also did his bit with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 12 runs as the Cobras were restricted to 152/6 in their 20 overs.
It was with ball in hand, though, that Kleinveldt really stepped up for his team.
Having conceded only three runs in his first three overs, he also removed both Dolphins openers Sarel Erwee (2) and Morne van Wyk (1).
From there the Dolphins always looked like a side that was going to struggle as they lost wickets at regular intervals.
Skipper, Khaya Zondo put up a brave fight for his team, scoring 53 as the Dolphins could only manage 144/5 in their 20 overs.
In the end, it was Kleinveldt's spell (2/9 in his four overs) that won the match for the Cobras by eight runs.
