The Cape Cobras are in the driving seat at the end of Day One of their Sunfoil Series clash against the Lions at the Wanderers.
Having won the toss, former Cape Cobras star and now-Lions captain Omphile Ramela decided that his side would bat first in the four-day encounter.
The decision backfired almost from the first ball, as Ramela (1) and his opening partner former Proteas batsman Stephen Cook (2) were both back in the hut inside the first four overs.
Former Eastern Province youngster Tladi Bokako did the early damage by removing both openers and ultimately ended with bowling figures of 3/31 as the Cobras bowled out the hosts for just 104 runs.
Jason Smith and Lizaad Williams also got three wickets apiece as Proteas star Reeza Hendricks (41) and Dominic Hendricks (30) got the runs for the Lions.
Already on top when it was their turn to bat, the Cobras pinned their hopes on the Malan brothers – Janneman and Pieter – to get them off to a good start.
Unfortunately, the latter was caught behind with his score on 7.
Janneman Malan continued to fight for his team and added an unbeaten 90 runs to take the Cobras to 204/ 2 – a first innings lead of 100 runs – at stumps. He will be joined in the middle by David Bedingham (65* off just 88 balls) when play resumes on Tuesday.
