Ex-Protea batting coach Dale Benkenstein believes Cricket South Africa made a big mistake by getting rid of head coach Ottis Gibson.
West Indian Gibson and his support staff were all let go after failing to get out of the group stage at this year’s World Cup.
And with CSA doing a complete revamp of their coaching structures and also having appointed former Lions coach Enoch Nkwe as interim boss for their tour of India, Benkenstein believes they made a wrong move.
He tells Netwerk24: “They [the Proteas] lost an excellent coach. I can’t see how it was a good decision.
“South Africa is not an easy team to coach with the criteria you have to meet when it comes to choosing the team.
“I think Ottis handled it well... these are challenges that you are not faced with anywhere else in the world.”
